  Con la locuzione di new economy vengono raggruppati l'economia delle telecomunicazioni, dei media, di internet, dell'informatica e delle biotecnologie. Questa è l'economia del futuro e anche del presente nata negli Stati Uniti e sbarcata in Europa. Una delle caratteristiche delle imprese della new economy è il tasso di crescita estremamente alto, ma spesso non sono ancora in grado di produrre utili. Sono imprese ad alto tasso di rischio e operano su mercati estremamente dinamici.
